Beanalysis: Toronto Final

For the final time for a little while, Hello all! I do very much hope you’ve enjoyed my writing just a little, or maybe even more than a little. I know I enjoyed writing it and doing research on it, like I’ve said, this really is my hobby. So, without further ado, enjoy this last Toronto Beanalysis!

Sinner v. de Minaur

Didn’t I say something about wanting Sinner to win one of these masters things sooner or later? Well it’s closer than it seemed I guess, he had a nice and easy match last night against Paul to keep him fresh going into his third Masters final. Something that jumps out at me when looking at stats is that first serve percentage, it’s pretty bad looking, only 46%, that’s unfortunate. He still managed to win 58% of his serve points, which isn’t bad for that low of a first serve percent. I assume some good returning saved him a lot in that match, considering he won 47% of return points, converting half of his break point chances to break Paul 5 times. This might be a sign of weakness that ADM might be able to target if he’s paying enough attention.

Well, the other contender in this final has yet to be in one until now. His run has been very eventful, beating Cam Norrie, Taylor Fritz, and previous champion Daniil Medvedev, which is a pretty great tournament. Unforced errors and ADM’s stellar return games killed ADF in that match. I will also note that ADM’s first serve percentage was bad, and that is bad for this finals matchup considering Sinner was able to win using some really good returning. Sinner was able to win more of his first serve points than ADM was, so that could be a huge factor in this one. Overall, everyone, including the bookmakers, thinks Sinner wins his first Masters title. And to be honest, I think he does too. I can only assume it’s going to go quick because of the general skill difference and the ease with which Sinner beat Paul yesterday.

And with that, my writing is finished. I really appreciate all of you tagging along and reading my stand up comedy, err, writeups I mean. I think I’ll be back with some more sooner than later, and I think I will continue coverage of Masters tournaments in the future. Probably not Cincy next week, but regardless. Thank you all again for reading, and I hope you enjoyed!
